AT RIVERSIDE ORGANIC FARM YOUNG PEOPLE LEARN A WAY TO VALUE THEIR ENVIRONMENT, THEMSELVES AND OTHERS.
Based in Cheshire, Riverside is a working organic farm and educational centre, offering an alternative curriculum for young people aged 13-19 years. Our aim is to work in partnership with schools, colleges and training providers to build positive attitudes to learning and raise achievement. Tailored to the needs of each individual young person we place a strong focus on building self esteem, motivation and teamwork. Our courses are designed to meet ASDAN requirements, engaging students from between 3 to 6 hours a week. Farm Manager and Programme Co-ordinator, Simon Bennett, has a degree in Agricultural Engineering, Marketing and Management. Over the last three years Simon has gained significant experience dealing with young people with challenging behaviour and in facilitating their personal and social development. Simon has been invited to deliver aspects of Reaseheath College’s educational programmes. Programme Advisor, Marianne Bennett is a qualified and practicing teacher. All necesary CRB checks are in place.

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT THROUGH A CREATIVE AND PRACTICAL PROGRAMME .
This programme has been specifically designed help young people who:
• would enjoy learning in an alternative and practical environment
• may find it difficult to fully engage with mainstream learning
• would benefit from developing their teamwork skills and learning to build sustainable relationships with others

We offer an alternative opportunity for young
people to:
• experience success in a range of practical activities
• benefit from support targeted to individual needs
• discover new talents, skills and interests
• engage with their peers and teaching staff
• explore new and practical ways to learn
• develop their inter-personal, teamwork and social skills
• raise their self-esteem and confidence

ASDAN Award Programmes offer imaginative ways of developing, recording and certificating a wide range of young people’s personal qualities, abilities and achievements, as well as introducing them to new activities and challenges. All the programmes link to nationally recognised qualifications, which contribute to performance tables.

At Riverside, we aim to develop the social and emotional skills that underpin effective learning and positive behaviour. We work with young people to improve their self awareness, manage their feelings, motivate themselves and develop their empathy and social skills
